Orange Personal Cloud & Livebox Storage

In 2012, personal cloud offers were not popular and only the most digital knew how to use them. The preservation of sensitive personal data (photos, SMS, contacts, identity scans, etc.) has become an important subject because their loss constitutes an emotional shock.

With little-known solutions (SkyDrive, iCloud, Dropbox) and often paying data transfer fees, tangible media was still the preferred solution for most mobile, tablet and PC users.

Legitimate by virtue of its status as a telecom operator, Orange has decided to launch an application offering allowing storage, sharing and consultation, free of charge for using the mobile network, of data from smartphones, tablets and PCs (TV viewing also possible)

Deuxième mission, « Livebox storage » offer project management

Building on the success of the Orange Cloud and wanting to offer an even greater storage volume while making the storage medium more tangible, Orange decided to launch a « local Cloud » project. Rather positioned on NAS (Network Attached Storage) solutions, the offer is based on a 1TB physical hard drive integrated into the new Livebox 4.

The Livebox 4 program consists of:

  • improving the functionality of the Livebox 3 (better WiFI, better ethernet, internalization of the ONT, 4G pebble)
  • improvement of television services (improvement of QoE, improvement of HD eligibility, improved recording, …)
  • a secure consultation and sharing offer personal devices data

My role as project manager for the Livebox Storage offer consisted of:

  • Collecting the expectations of top R&D management and have the EB drafted accordingly
  • Defining and leading project governance
  • Monitoring and arbitrating the budget and KPIs
  • Coordinate and managing project planning
  • Animating the production of product processes (information, subscription, reception, activation, use, technical and functional assistance, etc.)
  • Supervising, with the marketing manager, the marketing tasks:
    • business plan
    • creation of offers
    • design of User Journeys and the look and feel of Smartphone, Tablet, PC and TV applications
    • establishment of partnerships (digital safe, La Poste, banks, etc.)
    • customer support
    • studies and legal documents (Terms and Conditions, meta data, TV content, Orange statistics, recommendations, etc.)
  • Supervising, with the solution manager, the technical tasks:
    • production of Smartphone, Tablet, PC and TV applications
    • security constraints
    • testing between marketing, business, technical and regional teams
  • Supervising the animation of distribution channels
    • Team training
    • Testing and appropriation

For reasons of material costs, the service was not renewed at the launch of Livebox 5
